Are hooves really "insensitive" ?
The hooves themselves don't feel anything. But it's really sensitive where the hooves connect to the legs. They can feel certain things about the ground they're walking on because of the connection to the legs, in the same way that you can feel certain things when someone presses your fingernail, even though your fingernails themselves cannot feel. They aren't ticklish because the hooves themselves are not sensitive; they might be able to feel that something's touching them, but since there are no nerves in the hooves themselves, they will not feel tickling. You can sc manure off a cow's hoof and they won't mind, but if you accidentally move up to the connection with the leg, they won't like it.
