Converging series questions?

It's simplest to see that it is a geometric series, with ratio (x+8)/7 and starting term 1. So whenever l(x+8)/7l < 1 (absolute value less than unity) we have convergence, and indeed the sum is then 1/(1 - (x+8)/7).
