Does anyone recommend going from very blonde to a darker more fall color?

I am a very blonde person, kind of golden and I really want to go into a rich color for a change and for the season, does anyone have any suggestions or reservations about doing this? I know I will be shocked because I have been blonde for 25 years but I am sick of it. I want it to be like Shania Twains hair when she keeps it a little more brown than red. Like a rich auburn or something
