Has anyone ever read a seperate peace by John Knowles?

Okay so what enemy do you think Gene kills while attending Devon? I was wondering cause it sdays in the book at the end that "My war ended befor i even put on a uniform; I was on active duty all my time at school; I killed my enemy there."
