Most of us agree that something needs to be done with healthcare. Why are we going to spend so much on it?

I love your idea. The best way to get healthcare costs down and let medical providers compete is to get the insurance industry out of it. This could be accomplished by the people, incidentally. But everyone has been programmed to think healthcare equals insurance. Hard to deprogram that unless you've been uninsurable as long as I have.
